Carbonara…almost! May 31, 2014

My Italian colleague would probably tell me off as the dish I am about to present is not an authentic carbonara but this is what  the Cook M&S app calls it – Smoky Bacon and Pea Carbonara…. This is a dish I made at home tonight. I discovered the app yesterday and I am so amazed. It presents a few recipes (I am sure it will get enhanced), gives you a full list of the ingredients needed and talks you through the cooking process. Above all, all the ingredients can be found at M&S Food so no need to run from one supermarket to the other to find what you need. So anyway, authentic or not it was delicious and there is more left for tomorrow…

Mix it up mochi…

Oh I like Wagamama! Do you like Wagamama? Most of the times I order the chicken katsu curry and some other times the pad thai… Recently I tasted a new dessert that has been added on the summer menu. It is mix it up mochi ice-cream in three flavours: coconut, raspberry and the best of all toasted sesame. I believe that toasted sesame ice-cream is my new love…

From Wagamama’s website :

Mochi is rice punded into paste and molded. in japan it is traditionally made in a ceremony called mochitsuki.

San Carlo Cicchetti May 11, 2014

Whenever I visit the North, there is a lovely restaurant I walkways want to visit. The very sophisticated interior does make you fill like you have jumped in a restaurant in Italy. It serves the delightful Venetian culinary custom of cicchetti, delicious small plate dishes to share. The menu is beyond interesting and changes every season. The last time I was there with my friend Tereza, we had a few noteworthy dishes but what caught my attention was the presentation of the scallops.

And after a dangerously delicious meal came tiramisu!

And oh joy! The website states there will be a restaurant opening in London’s Covent Garden soon.

Oreo heaven… May 4, 2014

A couple of posts with regards to desserts. Who does not like them?

When I was at home for Christmas, I tried these Oreo mini desserts at my aunt’s. I was so amazed about how delicious they were so I decided to make them. The recipe is so easy, it is a s follows. Grind 2 packs of Oreo biscuits and then add a pack of Philadelphia soft cheese. Stir thoroughly and then turn mixture into balls. You can then roll the balls in literally anything you like: crushed nuts, coconut, chocolate sprinkles etc.

This year my parents were visiting during Shrove Tuesday and we made pancakes. I used the recipe of my good friend Lucy. Have a look at her blog

I wish it could be Shrove Tuesday everyday, but hey who is stopping us?

The Market Company

This is my favourite (by far) spot in the old town of Nicosia in Cyprus. Whenever I am back home I visit and spend hours at this place. It serves wine, amazing cocktails and extremely unusual and delicious dishes. It belongs to the cousin of my best fiend and this  is an additional reason why we always go there. Whether it is cold or hot, night or day, hungry or not hungry “Market” is the place to be.

How did I let that happen? It has really been soooo long! It has been a busy period. I am no longer a student now and I enjoy working in the field on Medical Statistics. My passion for food photographs has not dried out and I have quite a lot to share from the past few years. I will do my best not to leave the best ones behind. So I will start with a recent one…

Jacob’s Chop House in Oxford is a relatively new place near my work. As the name suggests, it serves an extensive and excellent selection of meat dishes but also pretty delicious vegetarian dishes. When I dine out, I try to choose dishes which I can not often have at home hence the steak. Accompanied by baked potatoes with bacon and peppercorn sauce. There was none left by the end of it.
